SCIENCE: Outer space

  • Observe the sun and moon at different locations in the sky. Discuss their movement.

  • Use a flashlight and globe to demonstrate day and night.

  • Observe the phases of the moon.

  • Act out appropriate motions for the sun, moon, and stars.
     


     


SOCIAL STUDIES: Transportation

  • Cut or draw pictures of different types of transportation.

  • Use milk cartons, boxes, or blocks to create a train or bus.

  • Use paper cut into geometric shapes (along with macaroni wheels or buttons) to create pictures of different kinds of transportation.

  • Use chairs to make an imaginary train, car, or airplane. Act out what might happen on the trip. Have your child dictate a story about his "trip" to you.

  • Sing "The Wheels on the Bus".

  • Identify different types of transportation by their sounds

  • Play a guessing game. Give clues to see if your child can guess the different forms of transportation.

SNACKS:

  • Yellow foods (bananas, cheese)

  • "Astronaut" food (Tang, breakfast bars, etc. For fun, put some pudding or yogurt in a plastic sandwich bag and tie shut. Cut a small hole in the corner, squeeze, and eat!)

  • "Rocket"
    - Mix 1 small box of gelatin according to package directions. Pour into an empty juice can and put in refrigerator to set. When ready to eat, dip can in hot water for a few seconds. Turn upside down on plate and add a fat carrot for the nose cone.
