Early Education at Home
Q: What other materials do I need besides your book?
A: Just standard school supplies. There are no student workbooks -- no required materials to buy. Some preparation is necessary, but most of the materials you will need can be found around your home.
Q: Is the reading instruction
phonics-based?
A:
This curriculum covers only pre-reading skills (although there are a few
activities involving letter sounds). An appendix at the end of the book
lists other curricula for phonics-based reading instruction.
Q: What if my preschooler already
reads (or is ready to read)?
A:
Many parents still use Early Education at Home, substituting lessons
from a reading curriculum for the letter activities in the book.
Q: If I have more than one child, do
I need to order a separate book for each?
A:
No. This is a teacher's guide. If you write your plans in pencil, you can
reuse the book for a younger child. You can also use different colored
pencils if you are teaching several children at once to individualize their
instruction.
Q: Do you have anything similar for
older grades?
A:
There are lots of wonderful curricula available for school-aged children-why
reinvent the wheel? Our personal recommendations are listed in the back of
the book.

Art Adventures at Home
Q: I have no artistic ability at all! Can I still use this curriculum?
A: Definitely! The lessons are written in a clear, step-by-step style that is easy to follow.
Q: If I have an older child, do I
need to start with the first book?
A:
Not necessarily. If you are starting a student in grades 3-5 who has had
little previous art instruction, it would probably be helpful to complete
Year A of Level 1 first. If the child is familiar with basic art terms and
concepts, you can begin directly with Level 2. Students in grades 6 and
above should start in either Level 2 (if they need more art background) or
Level 3.
Q: I have children of different
ages. Can I teach art to them all at the same time?
A:
Yes! The lessons in the first two volumes are coordinated so that you can
teach all of your children at the same time, often using the same materials.
Older students can work in the third volume with minimal assistance.
Q: Are art supplies included?
A:
No. However, the supplies that are required are inexpensive and easy to
obtain.
Q: Where do I get the art samples
you refer to in your lessons?
A:
Many families use reference books from their homes or from public libraries
(The "List of Artists" in the back of the book tells you which art work you
need for each lesson). Those who don't have the time to do this can purchase
our Masterpak, which is a handy collection of 40 reproductions that
cover the lessons in all three volumes.
